punta lobos hike

Picture this, you are driving down the highway, you have your hiking boots on and you are ready for adventure. Once off the highway you make your way down a dirt road through the baja desert. As you pull up to the hike you are surrounded by mountain cliffs, cacti, the ocean and friendly fishermen coming and going in their pangas. There are a couple ways to get to the hike but our favorite is by going through the abandoned cannery located at the bottom of the trail. Once used to process and preserve the catch of the day, the now rusting metal, concrete, rock ruins are a unique and fascinating sight, offering a glimpse into the history of Todos Santos. It is now used for private events and is a must see!

The Punta Lobos hike is a easy to moderate trail, once you reach the midpoint of the hike near the summit, you can choose different view points; take in the vast beauty of the Pacific Ocean, the rugged Baja desert coastline, the Sierra de la Laguna mountains that literally look like a painting or hike down to the cove, towards the old port. You cannot choose wrong here, any trail and any direction are breathtakingly beautiful.

The old port cove is definitely one of the highlights of this hike should you choose to explore this trail. This historic site are where ships used to dock to unload and trade spices, and it’s now a popular spot for hiking and sightseeing. The trail down to the old port is a steep and rocky descent, but it’s well worth it for the chance to see this piece of Baja’s history up close.

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just looking for a scenic walk, the Punta Lobos hike is a must-do activity in Todos Santos. The views from the top are simply unforgettable and the abandoned cannery adds an extra layer of awesome to the hike.

Tip: How to get there: Get off the road towards San Cristobal Hotel and head towards the Pacific Ocean! You can’t miss it.
